AA#3640 Compassion Fatigue and Burnout: Is your staff at risk?
Alaina Iverson and Sara Koziol will present this course designed to support school leaders in understanding the effects of burnout and compassion fatigue that their staff may encounter as the first responders to student trauma. Participants will be provided resources and strategies that can be used as interventions and/or preventative measures to implement with their staff. At the end of the academy, participants will walk away with strategies and tools to implement in their schools to reduce or prevent burnout and compassion fatigue. It is encouraged that school leaders bring their support staff personnel (school counselors, social workers, teachers, etc.) so that a team approach can be utilized when developing an implementation plan. This will be a half day event with a pre-work expectation.
AA#3858 Safety Site Assessments for Schools - Basic CPTED Principles
Providing safe campuses is a critical concept in many school districts and communities throughout the country. Conducting an annual standards-based approach to assessing the security of school buildings, grounds, and policies is an important step in an overall school safety plan. CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) provides the framework for conducting safety site assessments based on industry standards. Participants will learn about the basic CPTED principles and the importance of conducting an annual safety assessment of their district facilities. including community threats, property perimeter, parking lot, exterior building features, physical and policy driven access control, and interior building concepts
